Williams pleased with positive vibe after Port Vale victory

Walsall Academy Manager Rob Williams was pleased that the positive energy that he’s seen in training translate to the pitch after the Under 18s recorded a 5-3 win over Port Vale last weekend.

Piers Juliff, Will Uchenna, Jack Shaw, Tayshen Robinson and Antonio Cristofaro all got on the scoresheet as the Saddlers came out on top in a thriller.

Despite recent defeats to Tividale and Blackpool by the odd goal, the group have been training well and were positive ahead of last weekend’s trip.

The game started well with the scholars hitting the crossbar twice within the first 10 minutes of the game.

The Saddlers continued to push and missed two further scoring opportunities.

However, it was the hosts took the lead on 15 minutes.

The Under 18s rallied and continued to play good football. They were finally rewarded as Juliff and Uchenna scored to turn the game on its head.

Port Vale responded well though and equalised on the stroke of half time.

Despite conceding a third goal early in the second half, the lads continued to create opportunities and further strikes from Shaw, Robinson and Cristofaro saw the Saddlers turn the game around again and claim all three points.

Williams has seen a good attitude on the training pitch and he was delighted with how the players went about their business against the Valiants.

“The lads dominated the game in terms of possession and chances which was really pleasing,” he said.

“Despite the ongoing search for a new PDP Coach, there has been a really positive vibe in training over the last few weeks.”

The Under 18s host Fleetwood Town this weekend in their next league fixture.
