We are getting to know members of the Walsall Women squad.
In our first player profile, we caught up with captain Abi Turner.

Position: Centre Back
When did you join Walsall Women?
"I joined Walsall women around six years ago following a break from football for several years."
Talk us through your career so far...
"I’ve played football from a young age covering several teams such as Sutton United and Boldmere before having to give up at the age of 17 due to having a heart crash which made things difficult for me to exercise, unfortunately drastically changing my life. I returned to football at Walsall Women when I was 20 following a full recovery and have played ever since, moving from the development team to the first team and then being named captain four seasons ago."
Thoughts for the season so far?
"I’m really pleased with how this season has gone for us, considering some drastic mid-season changes. The squad we have is a strong one and that shows on the field."
What are your best attributes on the field?
"I’m a strong player with the ability to calm down play or speed it up through communication and have a strong relationship with the team, helping us work as one."
What are your aspirations for the rest of the season?
"With the support network we have for the rest of the season me and the team are looking for a top three table finish. The progress we have made this year is exceptional and with Steve at the helm I’m sure we can only progress further."
