Oisin McEntee: "It's a relief to get three points"

21 March 2023

Saddlers defender Oisin McEntee was over the moon to see the side bag all three points on Saturday afternoon against Gillingham.

Second half goals from Isaac Hutchinson and Conor Wilkinson saw Michael Flynn’s side secure their first win in the league since New Years Day and McEntee was delighted to see the teams hard work finally result in a victory.

“It’s definitely a relief to get the three points because the boys work hard every week, day in, day out and it’s good to get the reward for that because we haven’t got that lately,” said McEntee.

“We have been unlucky at times so it was great to go out there and get a win.

“I think we managed the game well which is important when you go one goal up. Everyone was doing their job and filling in for each other. I think we deserved the second goal because we did manage the game so well.

“The competition for places is huge as well in defence because everyone is dying for clean sheets, even in training everyone is trying to block. It sets a solid foundation for everyone across the whole team.”

The 22-year-old suffered a serious shoulder injury shortly after joining the club in the summer and has had to be patient when waiting for his chance to shine and now he is focused on enjoying his football.

“All I want to do is play football,” he continued. “When I got out on the pitch today, I just wanted to enjoy it and I just didn’t feel any pressure. I was happy with how I did today.

“At times it has been tough mentally but you just have to stay mentally strong and keep putting the work in in training which I have been doing.

“I felt like I deserved the chance so when I got my chance today, I felt as though I took it well.”
