Michael Flynn pleased with overall reaction in Bradford draw

8 March 2023

Saddlers Head Coach Michael Flynn was pleased with the reaction from his side in last night’s goalless draw against high-flying Bradford City at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Following a below-par performance on Saturday afternoon against Barrow, a game which Flynn’s side lost 1-0, the Head Coach asked to see much more from his side against the Bantams and he believed that on the balance of play, his side were the ones who deserved the three points on the night.

“The performance tonight was a vast improvement on Saturday” said Flynn. “We played against a very good team who are inform, full of confidence and got the top goal scorer in the league.

“I thought on the balance of play, we were the better team and with a little bit of Lady Luck and a bit more composure we could be on a lot more points than what we are.

“I got a reaction tonight. I can handle win, lose or draw as long as we put in the effort and I think that the fans are the same.

“Hopefully they have gone away with a little bit of confidence but we have now got a tough few games coming up and we have got to repeat that performance because if we keep knocking on the door like we are then we are going to win football matches.

“The best chance Bradford had was when Andy Cook hit the bar, it was a great header to be honest, but other than that I don’t think Owen had much to do and their keeper was busier.”

The Head Coach made four changes to the side that lost at the weekend as he handed starts to strikers Conor Wilkinson and Andy Williams and Flynn was pleased with how they played.

“I thought Conor and Andy played well” he continued.

“I think that is the most that we have got out of Conor since his injury. He has got a good 75 minutes in the bank.

“It is good but we are going to have to be careful on the weekend and see how we go because it is going to be a tough game and we have got to make sure that they are able to repeat the work rate that we want.

“It is all well and good saying that players are back but they’re not ready and unfortunately they are the cards that we are dealt.”
