Michael Flynn looks ahead to Stevenage trip

10 March 2023

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn is expecting to meet a resilient Stevenage side when his team travel to the Lamex Stadium tomorrow.

The Saddlers will be looking to build on an improved performance against Bradford City in midweek when they take on Steve Evans’ men who currently sit third in the table.

Flynn was full of praise for Evans and his team and is under no illusions about the tough challenge they will provide.

“We’ve got a very difficult game against Stevenage,” he said.

“Steve has done a remarkable job there this season. They’ve been in the top two for most of the season, I know they spent money but that comes with pressure as well.

“Steve has put a good squad together; they got an unbelievable FA Cup result against Aston Villa.

“They’re a team who are going to be tough to beat. They’ve only conceded six corners in their last five games which goes to show how resilient they are.

“I know they’re having a little bit of a blip as well but they’re a dangerous team.”

Flynn saw his team respond to a disappointing defeat to Barrow last weekend with a solid display against the Bantams on Tuesday.

The Saddlers Head Coach is hoping his team will find their scoring touch and continue to improve after a Tuesday’s encouraging display.

“It was more like us,” he commented.

“It was a much-improved performance to the game on Saturday against Barrow and it’s what I expect from us.

“I watched it back, we got in good areas, put some good balls in and we need to get on the end of a few because we need to start scoring.

"It’s not rocket science - we know that, supporters know that, I know that, the players know that but if we keep getting in the areas that we’re getting in, I’m sure our luck will turn.”
