Flynn eyeing response against Swindon Town

13 March 2023

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn is backing his team to bounce back and respond to Saturday’s disappointing performance but has urged them to take the game by the scruff of the neck when they take on Swindon Town tomorrow night.

The Saddlers fell to a 3-1 defeat against Stevenage on Saturday but are back at the Poundland Bescot Stadium for the first of two home games in the space of four days.

Flynn insists that his team will come out fighting and is confident they can respond and turn their form around in similar fashion to earlier in the campaign.

“Let’s see how many of them can handle it, I know we can because we’ve done it already this season,” Flynn said.

“We can bounce back and go on a winning run, I know we can. We weren’t good enough (on Saturday) and we got what we deserved which was zero.

“We’ve got to start giving back to the fans because at the minute, we’re not. Hard work takes you so far but we need someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. That doesn’t mean just getting on the ball - doing your job, organising your teammates and just being professional.

“Stick with us, I know we’re not repaying (supporters) the other way at the minute but we will and I’ll make sure we do, I just need us all together. When the chips are down, that’s when we’ll come out fighting and stick together.”

Flynn will be looking for significant improvement tomorrow and he was unhappy with how his side performed at the Lamex Stadium, particularly in the opening 45 minutes.

“In the first half, we were a disgrace,” he commented.

“I’ve told them, they know that and I’m not going to single out individuals. It was an absolutely terrible performance; it could have been five first half.

“Second half we had a go, should have scored a couple but too little, too late and it’s easy to have a go when you’re 3-1 down.”
