Hutchinson enjoying positivity during pre-season

26 July 2023

Walsall midfielder Isaac Hutchinson has felt positive during pre-season and feels the team are gelling really well.

The 23-year-old is preparing to embark on his second season at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

He’s had a solid pre-season so far and has enjoyed preparations so far.

“It’s got a good feel about it, it’s really positive,” Hutchinson said.

“There is a lot of positivity coming from the staff and from each other as well, we’re all demanding each other and I think that’s showing in the standard of training and the standard of how we’ve performed in games.

“The new boys have fitted in so well. It can sometimes take a while but they’ve fitted in so well, it’s like we’ve been playing with them for a while. There is an element of learning each other’s games but as characters and people, they’ve fitted in perfectly.”

A standout moment for Hutchinson came in last Friday’s draw with Rochdale as he netted the equaliser with a delicious strike and he was pleased to see the ball hit the back of the net.

“I had a couple blocked and I had a couple where I expected myself to score but it rolled out perfectly and I thought, why not? Thankfully, it flew in top bins,” Hutchinson added.

The Sky Bet League Two campaign kicks off in just 10 days and the midfielder is keen to make the most of the remaining days to get himself into a strong position to hit the ground running.

“In pre-season sometimes, it feels miles away and then it’s there before you know it,” he commented.

“We’ve got to enjoy the rest of it, getting fitter and fitter and then go into the first game of the season with confidence.”
