Flynn looking to inspire generation at FA Cup clash with Leicester City

27 January 2023

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn says the fans deserve to have a big occasion to look forward and is looking to inspire a new generation of supporters when the Saddlers take on Leicester City tomorrow afternoon.

The Poundland Bescot Stadium is sold out and excitement is building both amongst supporters and the team.

Flynn is loving life in WS1 and is buzzing ahead of tomorrow’s match.

As well as looking to plot a cup shock, he is also aiming to give supporters a memorable day.

“I want us to draw in a new generation of fans,” Flynn said.

“The fact we’re sold out is testament to the fans; they deserve this big day, they’ve been with us through thick and thin since I’ve been in charge and I thank them for the togetherness throughout the club.

"The same goes for Trivela, Leigh (Pomlett), Stefan (Gamble) and Dan Mole as well.

“I’m enjoying it, I’m at a good football club, we’re on a good run of form and playing a Premier League team tomorrow, my family is coming up to support - what’s not to love.”

The team haven’t played since the 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers almost a fortnight ago but they’ve had a productive time on the training field ahead in preparation for tomorrow’s encounter.

“Preparations have been really good,” Flynn commented.

“Early part of the week was difficult with the frost but we’ve done what we needed to do.

“It’s always difficult preparing to face such a good team in Leicester and a quality manager in Brendan Rodgers so it’s difficult but we’ve got a game plan and hopefully it works and the players keep switched on for the duration of the game.

“As much as I would like to wish Brendan a happy 50th birthday for yesterday, I hope it’s one where he remembers it by us beating his side.”
