Head Coach Mat Sadler has praised striker Jamille Matt as a ‘fantastic team player and individual’ after his goal secured the Saddlers their spot in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Matt scored the only goal of our second round replay against Alfreton Town after just five minutes on Tuesday night at the Poundland Bescot Stadium and the Head Coach thought he was fantastic throughout the entire game.
It was the first time the striker had completed 90 minutes since the Good Friday defeat against Rochdale last season, a game he also scored in, and Sadler was full of praise for the match winner.
“I thought his overall play was fantastic,” said the Head Coach.
“To play the full 90 minutes having not played for some time, it is testament to him and the work that he puts in day in, day out to make sure he is ready when he is called upon.
“I have said before that Jamille is someone who is revered by many in this division for everything that he has done and everything that he stands for and he continues to show that for me in what he does and the hard work that he puts in.
“He is a fantastic team player and individual. It’s right that we are talking about him after the game in my opinion for the work that he put into the game.
“I was delighted with Jamille tonight in both boxes, I thought he must have headed 10 balls in our box which good teams do by the way.
“You have to find different ways of winning and tonight I thought Jamille’s contribution was fantastic and I think he could have scored more.
“Scoring the only goal on the night was great for him and probably settled him into the game as well.”
