Walsall midfielder Ryan Stirk insists spirits are high heading into tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Stockport County.
The Saddlers are set to play their first league game at the Poundland Bescot Stadium of the 2023/24 season against Dave Challinor’s side.
Stirk has settled in well since arriving in the summer from Birmingham City and while it hasn’t been the start to the season that the team would have liked results wise, the 22-year-old is still upbeat about how the team have performed and gelled so far.
“Spirits are high,” said Stirk.
“We feel good as a group and our performances haven’t been awful, I think they’ve been alright.
"The results haven’t reflected how we’ve played. If we stick together then the results will change.
“Ever since I’ve come here, all it’s been is positive for me. I fit in the with the lads quite well, we have a tight nit bunch.
“Everyone is together and you can see that from our last two performances, even though it hasn’t been positive results, I think you can see that we’re willing to work for each other and that’s a big thing to have.”
The Saddlers will be looking to get off the mark on Saturday as they take on a Stockport team who are also searching for their first win of the season after losing last season’s play-off final.
Stirk is excited about the prospect of playing in front of the home fans at the Poundland Bescot Stadium and has been impressed with the levels of support so far.
“When we were at Morecambe, we felt the fans,” he commented.
“We could hear them and they could really be our driving force this season.
“We feel them right behind us and it really drives us on so long may that continue.
“I can’t wait to go out on the pitch on Saturday and show the whole fanbase what we’re about because we’ve been playing good, we need that result which will come but I can’t wait to be out there.”
