Interim Head Coach Mat Sadler discusses Salford City test

21 April 2023

Interim Head Coach Mat Sadler is aiming to bring everybody together and instil confidence ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Salford City at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Sadler, who will be assisted by Richard O’Kelly, will take charge of the team following Michael Flynn’s departure earlier this week.

The interim boss is keen to have everyone pulling in the same direction and stressed the importance of strong unity ahead of the final three matches of the campaign.

“I’m just desperate to bring it all together,” said Sadler.

“I’m desperate to get everybody pulling in the same direction and I voice that to all supporters.

“It’s been a tough three or four weeks for sure and we haven’t given them too much to sing and shout about so I’m desperate to put a performance out there, a team out there that will bring us all back together again.

“I want them to hopefully see what we’re trying to do, the energy we play with and I want everything to come back together again.

“It’s fans, players, all the staff around here – it’s a hell of a powerful thing when we can all go in the same direction and I’m desperate for that to be the positive message between now and the end of the season.”

Tomorrow’s opponents Salford currently occupy the last play-off place and will be fighting for their lives to ensure they are there come the end of the season.

Sadler highlighted a number of threats that the Ammies possess but he is eagerly anticipating the challenge of taking on Neil Wood’s side.

“They’re a very good team,” he commented.

“Neil sets his team up with a good way to play, they can mix it up. They can go direct into Matt Smith and then they’ve got some really good technical players around him and they can play out from the back so they’re a good challenge for us, a very good footballing team and Neil has set them up really well so it will be a tough assignment for sure.

“They’re still fighting for the play-offs and it will be a really enjoyable challenge.”
