Evans focused ahead of Rochdale trip

6 April 2023

Walsall goalkeeper Owen Evans insists the team are focused on improving performance levels ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Rochdale.

The Saddlers will be looking to kick off the busy Easter period on a positive note against the Dale who are fighting for their EFL lives.

While Rochdale currently sit bottom of Sky Bet League Two, Evans is expecting a tough battle but stressed the team are concentrating on their own performance.

“We have to make sure we focus on ourselves, focus on our performance and make sure we do better than we have been doing,” said Evans.

“I think everyone knows we can achieve more in games and we can perform better so we’re constantly working until the end of the season to improve and churn out good performances.

“They’ll be up for it and we’ve got to match that. If we come in with anything less, I think we’ll be in for a tough game.

“Anyone in this league can beat anyone on the day so we have to fully prep now and be ready for Friday.”

As part of preparations for tomorrow’s encounter, the Saddlers staged an open training to supporters at the Poundland Bescot Stadium earlier this week.

Evans was pleased to be able to give supporters a glimpse of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes and felt it was an enjoyable day for everyone involved.

“It’s good to see all the kids enjoy themselves,” he commented.

“Thankfully, it was a nice day and it seemed like everyone enjoyed it, it was a good day all round.

“To see it live, you see videos online but it’s good to see a whole training session in person and it’s a nice little peak behind the curtain so hopefully they had a little taste of it and they enjoyed it.”
