Johnson relishing trip to his former team

16 September 2022

Walsall striker Danny Johnson is relishing the chance to face his former team tomorrow afternoon.

The 29-year-old spent 18 months at Leyton Orient and scored 22 goals in 54 outings for the O's.

Johnson admitted that he enjoys facing his former clubs but is expecting a difficult challenge when taking on the league leaders tomorrow.

“It’s a tough place to go having played there but if we get on the front foot, the fans can quickly turn and they will be expecting more, especially with the start that they’ve had,” he said.

“They won’t want to be going in and being in a fight with us.

“I love playing against my ex-teams. People say that you don’t celebrate when you score against old teams but I celebrate every goal and I can’t wait to go back there tomorrow and put on a performance.”

Johnson is enjoying life at the Poundland Bescot Stadium having scored seven goals so far this season.

While the team are on a frustrating run at the moment, spirits are still high in the camp.

“It’s still up beat,” Johnson commented.

“I think everyone’s a bit disappointed with the run that we’ve been on but it’s a good place to come in and train, everyone’s happy and training’s always good.

“I’m loving it, I’ve really enjoyed coming in and getting back playing.

“Scoring goals is what I’ve always wanted to do. The last few games, there’s not been that many goals but I’m sure I’m getting locked and loaded ready to go again for a good spell.”
