Flynn frustrated after Bradford defeat

5 September 2022

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn felt his team let Bradford City off the hook after Saturday’s frustrating defeat at the University of Bradford Stadium.

Despite a dominant display, goals from Andy Cook and Jake Young proved to be enough for the Bantams who held on after Donervon Daniels pulled one back for the visitors who applied further pressure in the second half.

Flynn admitted his side need to improve in both boxes and was frustrated that the team didn’t make their pressure count.

“It’s a game we completely dominated,” he said.

“Again, we don’t kill teams off and then gave them two easy goals.

“We worked all week on not to show their wide men inside, show them outside because they love to cut in and get shots off and crosses off. For the second goal, we allowed him to come in and pick his corner.

“We worked on picking up Andy Cook, who’s a deadly finisher in form and he’s free when we’ve got three around him so not good enough defensively and not good enough with our finishing.

“I don’t blame anybody for missing penalties but again, that’s another opportunity that we’ve let them off the hook but we’ve absolutely dominated that game.

“At the minute, we’re not good enough in both boxes, it’s as simple as that.

“We’re dominating games but we’re letting them off and it needs to change quickly.

“I think it’s the best we’ve played since the first game of the season, maybe possibly better than that because we’re away from home against a big club and we’ve absolutely dominated the game. Nobody likes losing but there’s a lot of positives we can take, I just wish it was three points.”
