Daniels grateful for fantastic support

6 September 2022

Walsall captain Donervon Daniels has praised Saddlers fans after Saturday’s trip to Bradford City and is confident results will improve.

Michael Flynn’s side were left frustrated after leaving the University of Bradford Stadium empty handed on Saturday despite a dominant display.

499 Saddlers supporters made the trip to West Yorkshire and Daniels was grateful for their vocal support but he was frustrated not to be able to have come away with a positive result to send the fans home happy.

“It’s tough to take,” Daniels said.

“You sit down and you play it over in your head and you feel like it’s going to turn because we’re doing the right things and you can see it.

“I thank the travelling fans because they came out and they screamed for us and cheered us for the whole game. It’s important for us, we love it and knowing that they’re with us and pushing us, we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing.

“I’m sure our performance gave them some hope and insight to where we’re working extremely hard to get the three points on a matchday.

“You could see how well we executed the passing out from the back from Owen (Evans), to me, to Clarkey (Peter Clarke), to Coms (Brandon Comley), into midfield, working it down the sides but we have to be more ruthless, we have to be more clinical and that’s in both boxes.

“We have to kill them when they come in our box and kill them when we get in their box and I think that is the major difference between getting the three points and giving it to the opposition.”

The Saddlers suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time this season on Saturday.

Daniels admitted the must improve in certain areas but he’s also confident that their fortunes will change.

“I guess it’s just a rough patch and you go through those at points throughout the season,” he commented.

“We started well, we’ve got to weather certain things at the moment but I’ve got no doubts in this team.

“I have frustrations in the team because we can’t accept certain situations, certain mistakes or sloppy play - we can’t accept it.

"We want more than where we currently are and we will achieve that, there’s no two ways about it.”
