Williams hopes Saddlers can kick on and show what they're capable of

4 October 2022

Walsall forward Andy Williams is hoping the team can start showing what they’re capable as they prepare to take on Northampton Town this evening.

The Saddlers will be looking to build on the point they gained against Stockport County at the weekend with two home games on the horizon against the Cobblers and AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Williams is keen to see the team translate their good work in training onto the pitch and has faith that the squad can push on and really show what they can do.

“It would be great if we could show what we’re capable of and I think if we do that, it will be enough to hopefully get us a couple of results, if not a couple of wins and that’s important now,” Williams said.

“We need to build on the point (from Saturday) and we’ve got a couple of home games, albeit a very tough one, but it’s still more than winnable with this group that we’ve got here.

“I said that to everyone, this is a group that can do whatever we want to do in this division but we need to start believing in each other.

“What we see in the week, we’re not seeing on the weekend and it needs to come out more.

“We need to shine a bit more on the pitch and not be scared.

"I know it will come with a few wins, it’s football unfortunately, you go on a run like this and it can often happen, especially with youngsters in the group but I really believe we can kick on now and go and do something better than what we are.”

Williams bagged his first Saddlers goal against Stockport on Saturday with a glancing header in the 88th minute to equalise.

He’s is now looking to build on his first strike and was pleased to get off the mark.

“It was nice,” he commented.

“My aim of the day was to get a shot; I’ve done that and thankfully it’s gone in.

“It was nice to finally get on the scoresheet and open my Saddlers account. The point is something to build on and hopefully now for me it’s something to build on as well.

“I was frustrated now to be in the side and hopefully I’ve come on and done enough to get a few more games going forward.”
