Michael Flynn delighted with emphatic first half performance against Harrogate

26 October 2022

Saddlers Head Coach Michael Flynn was delighted with his team’s fast start in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over Harrogate Town at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Flynn’s side came charging out the blocks flooding forward with numbers causing the visitors issues with each attack and three first half goals from Danny Johnson, Liam Gordon and Isaac Hutchinson were enough to secure all three points.

The Head Coach expressed his pride in his team’s fast start and the attitude and application of his players which saw the Saddlers go into half-time with an impressive three-goal advantage.

“I thought we were excellent for 70 minutes” Flynn explained. “The work ethic, the chances we created, the goals we scored, it was almost nigh-on perfect for 70 minutes.

“We made a couple of chances because we had to look after people, probably unsettled us a little bit.

“I’m disappointed about conceding the goal because the defenders were superb tonight, they didn’t give [Harrogate] a sniff and probably deserved a clean sheet, but look, it’s three points and that’s the all-important thing.”

Flynn admitted modesty in the eventual 3-1 score line and acknowledged the importance of the positive Harrogate result in keeping pace with the fellow mid-table clubs.

“It could’ve been more if I’m honest,” he continued. “They’re a hard-working team, Harrogate, they’ve got a lot of injuries and I know how that feels because I’ve banged on about it.

“Nobody has got any sympathy for us and we’ve just got to keep going, keep grinding out, keep hanging in [the race for] the top half of the table and hopefully get everybody back for January.”
