Walsall captain to take part in Kaleidoscope's Wembley to Qatar challenge

11 November 2022

Walsall Captain Donervon Daniels will be taking part in Kaleidoscope Plus Group’s Wembley to Qatar challenge during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Participants of the challenge are tasked to either walk, run, cycle or swim the 4186 miles distance between Wembley and the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, where the World Cup final will be held, between Sunday 20th November and Sunday 18th December.

Kaleidoscope, who are our charity partners for the 2022/23 season, provide crucial mental health support services to the community and have almost five decades of experience in providing mental health support to thousands of people across the UK.

Money raised by participants of the challenge will help the charity continue to provide vital support to those who need it most.

As well as Donervon, staff at Walsall Football Club will also be taking part in the challenge as we aim to support our charity partners.

Donervon hopes to raise vital funds for the charity but is also keen to highlight the importance of mental health awareness.

“This a great opportunity to shine a light on an issue that deserves more attention, particularly over the winter period where the dark and cold nights can have an impact on people’s emotional well-being. It’s really important to try and keep active and connect with family and friends and this gives people the opportunity to do both,” he said.

“Mental Health is a subject we talk a lot about in our household and I think it should be spoken about openly elsewhere too, so I wanted to take part in the challenge after I heard about it to help put mental health awareness out in the forefront.

“I hope we can raise vital funds for Kaleidoscope so they can continue to provide the fantastic support services and make a difference in people’s lives.”

Monica Shafaq, CEO of The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, added: "I am so excited that we are launching our Wembley to Qatar challenge as we all enjoy the World Cup this winter and delighted that Walsall captain Donervon Daniels is supporting our challenge by signing up. Donervon is passionate about supporting those struggling with their emotional health and wellbeing, so we are thrilled to have him on board.

“Mental health also has a huge stigma within football. There’s still so much work to be done within clubs and the wider football community to support players’ mental health and wellbeing on and off the pitch as well as supporting fans and local communities.

“To have the support of Donervon and staff at Walsall FC with our challenge is fantastic. The more people that sign up the more people we can support. Our charity relies on the generosity of our supporters. All funds raised from our Wembley to Qatar challenge will go to services that provide crucial mental health support for those in need.”

You can keep track of Donervon’s and the Club’s progress in the challenge on our social media channels and on Kaleidoscope’s website here.
