Gordon pleased with third consecutive clean sheet

15 November 2022

Walsall defender Liam Gordon was pleased to record another clean sheet following Saturday’s goalless draw away to Carlisle United.

The result at Brunton Park saw Michael Flynn’s men make it three consecutive games without conceding in all competitions while stretching their unbeaten run to five.

Gordon believes the 317 travelling Saddlers fans helped secure a point against the Cumbrians, who currently sit one point outside the play-off places.

“It was a tough game,” Gordon said.

“It is always tough [going to Carlisle], the crowd get behind them, but the crowd got behind us. They were supporting us throughout the whole 90 minutes.

“It is another clean sheet and a point away from home.”

23-year-old Gordon wants to keep the momentum going this weekend when Walsall host Crawley Town.

“I think the boys are full of confidence,” Gordon stated.

“It’s another clean sheet as I said, and we have got to keep on moving and take all the positives from this game.

“We have just got to back it up with a win next Saturday.”

Walsall are building strong partnerships on the pitch, something Gordon thinks is instrumental to success.

“I was speaking to Tom Knowles [on Friday night], and I was saying that partnerships are massive everywhere on the pitch,” Gordon explained.

“For me, my partnership with Manny [Monthe], I know what he is going to do, and he knows what I am going to do. He knows what I want from him and that goes from everyone across the backline and the whole pitch to be fair.

“As a defender, it’s [the clean sheet] a massive confidence booster and a massive positive to take into every other game that we play.”

Gordon concluded by thanking the supporters who made the journey to Carlisle.

“The fans were unbelievable as they always are,” Gordon said.

“They were fantastic last week against Wycombe, and they were fantastic again [on Saturday].

“It’s a long journey for them and I just want to thank them for coming up and I am sorry that we couldn’t get a win, but I hope that they enjoyed themselves.”
