Earing excited ahead of FA Cup encounter

25 November 2022

Walsall midfielder Jack Earing is excited about tomorrow’s Emirates FA Cup second round tie against Carlisle United.

The Saddlers will be looking to reach the third round of the competition and extend their current unbeaten run to seven matches.

Earing will be hoping to be involved after coming off the bench in the last two games having recently returned from an injury lay off and he’s eagerly anticipating Saturday’s cup tie.

“It’s certainly one we’re looking forward to,” he said.

“It’s a prestigious competition. We want a good FA Cup run, not just for us, but for the fans as well.

“It will be a tough game against Carlisle, we obviously played them two weeks ago. They’re solid and hard to break down so it will be an entertaining game, especially at home in front of our crowd.

“We know what they’re about. They’re hard to break down, they’re doing very well in the league this season but we managed to get a good point against them.

“We know their strengths and weaknesses and we’ll come up against that and see what we can do against them.”

The Saddlers will have home advantage and have won five of their last six at the Poundland Bescot Stadium in all competitions, with the defeat coming against League One side MK Dons in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Earing feels the team have a good sense of belief playing at home.

“Our home form has been tremendous and I think that is down to our confidence,” he explained.

“At the start of the season, we were a bit on and off with the games at home but with the confidence now, we’re going into every home game and thinking we’re going to get three points or get through to the next round and that’s from us, through the staff, the environment and the fans.

“Everyone is buzzing at the moment and it certainly does help.”
