Kinsella proud to pick up consecutive Player of the Season awards

10 May 2022

Walsall midfielder Liam Kinsella was honoured to be voted as the club’s Player of the Season for the second year running.

The 26-year-old collected his award prior to Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Swindon Town on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign.

On the whole, it’s been a disappointing season for the team and individually, it’s been one of ups and downs for the midfielder.

Kinsella had a frustrating time with a couple of injuries but there were some positives to take in that he played his 200th match for the Saddlers back in February and also wore the captain’s armband on a handful of occasions.

He already has one eye on next season but was proud that his efforts during this campaign earnt him another accolade.

“It means a lot to me,” he said.

“It’s been a tough season for me with a few injuries here and there but it’s an honour for me to receive the player of the season award for the second year on the bounce so I’m very happy as well.

“It’s not what we wanted, what the fans wanted at the start of the season but it’s happened now, we’ve got a good gaffer in and assistant to lead us into next season.

“I’m sure they’re going to be busy in the summer to do what they want.

“I’m looking forward to next season now.

“It flies by in the off season. We’ll have a few weeks off now and get back to it ready for pre-season and I’m looking forward to it.”
