The Saddlers secured themselves their first victory of pre-season with a 2-0 win over AFC Telford United at the New Bucks Head Stadium.
Goals either side of the half from Andy Williams and Isaac Hutchinson showed a clinical side to Michael Flynn’s team and that ensured that they walked away from the game with the victory.
Shortly after the game kicked off, Donervon Daniels had a good chance from a corner for Walsall but despite being unmarked, he was unable to direct his header on target.
Moments after that chance for Daniels, the home side had a chance of their own as Jordan Piggott got on the end of a free-kick but his volley was wide of the far post.
Just after the half an hour mark the home side had the chance to open the scoring as Devarn Green went past goalkeeper Owen Evans before checking back on himself which allowed Evans to get back to his feet and make a great save.
As half time approached, Flynn’s side took the lead as the clock ticked into the 45th minute. Flynn Clarke chipped the ball into the six yard box and Williams was unmarked to guide his header into the bottom left corner.
Four minutes after the restart and the Saddlers doubled their lead. Williams made a nuisance of himself inside the area and by doing so, the ball fell to Hutchinson on the edge of the area and his first time finish was too strong for the Trialist in the Telford goal.
Telford had a number of half chances as the game drew to a close but Evans remained solid in goal for Walsall.
With a minute to go the Saddlers came close to adding a third but Trialist A was denied by a fine save.
