Flynn impressed with application during pre-season

22 July 2022

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn has been impressed with the way the players have applied themselves during pre-season as they prepare for their final friendly before the Sky Bet League Two campaign kicks off on July 30th.

The Saddlers make the short trip to Solihull Moors tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

Flynn is hoping to come through the match without any fresh injuries. He’s pleased with the way his team are gelling and with how the players have gone about their work so far.

“They have been first class,” Flynn said.

“The group have listened and taken things on board, asked questions when they haven’t been sure, which I like.

“It is nice that the players are showing that they care and want to improve so for me that is refreshing because you don’t always get that.

“I have been happy with the way they have gelled, especially with so many new faces.

“I will say it again, the most important thing for me is no injuries.

“We have had a bit of rotten luck at the minute with the injuries so I am hoping that that has turned now and we are going to get through the game injury free.

“The players are fit physically and next week will be about finishing off more what we want to do going forward.

“They have had a lot of it this pre-season but of course we have been concentrating on fitness and getting players through the door.”

Flynn added Goalkeeper Coach Dan Watson to his backroom staff following the departure of Maik Taylor and he’s pleased to have acquired Dan’s services.

“I am delighted, it is an important role,” he commented.

“It was obviously a big gap left when Maik left so having Dan in is good, it gives stability to the goalkeepers.

“It is a specialised area and I am sure Dan is enjoying himself. He has got a smile on his face and that is what I want to see.”
