Flynn Clarke joins on a season-long loan from Norwich City

11 July 2022

Walsall Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Flynn Clarke on a season-long loan from Championship side Norwich City.

The 19-year-old began his career at Peterborough United, joining their academy at the age of nine.

After being named on the bench on a couple of occasions in the 2019/20 season, he eventually made his professional debut in September 2020 at the age of 17 in a Carabao Cup tie against Cheltenham Town.

Clarke was prolific for Posh in the group stages of the Papa John’s Trophy that season, scoring in all three group games.

He played 11 times overall in the 2020/21 campaign before he joined Norwich City in the summer of 2021 for an undisclosed fee.

Clarke scored nine goals and got three assists in a successful 2021/22 campaign in Premier League 2 Division 2 with the Canaries.

He is now looking forward to his new challenge with the Saddlers and can’t wait to get started.

“I am very delighted to be here,” he said. “I am buzzing to get to meet all of the players, all of the staff and obviously the fans soon.

“The main thing for me is to try and get some minutes, to play against men and have the physical side of the game but I really want to show the players, staff and fans what it is that I am capable of and hopefully win some games.

“I have had a bit of preseason with Norwich so that has helped me with my fitness and I have got my touch back, I have got my eye for goal again.

“Coming in at this time of preseason will help me quite a lot and hopefully now I can just go straight in to it.

“I am a player that just wants to get on the ball. I like to get into pockets, I like to score, I like to get assists. I am a winning player, I just want to win games.”

Head Coach Michael Flynn is pleased to further boost his squad and revealed that he is excited to be working with Clarke.

“I am excited to welcome Flynn to the squad. He is a very talented player and he gives us that creativity in the final third.

“He has a very good range of passing and he is very highly thought of at Norwich City.

“I would like to thank Dean Smith and Norwich City for helping us in bringing Flynn into the Club. I am excited to work with him.”
