Dan Watson appointed as Goalkeeper Coach

20 July 2022

Walsall Football Club are delighted to announce the appointed of Dan Watson as our new Goalkeeping Coach.

Watson, 44, spent the 2021/22 season in League One with Cheltenham Town where he worked with current Saddlers goalkeeper Owen Evans.

The former Port Vale and Northampton Town coach left his role with the Robins recently and now can’t wait to get started and work alongside Head Coach Michael Flynn, First Team Coach Wayne Hatswell, Senior Professional Development/Assistant First Team Coach Mat Sadler and the rest of the first team playing squad.

“I’m excited to be here,” he said.

“I live in Walsall; my kids go to school in Walsall so it has that little bit more of an edge on it because I’ve got family and friends who are season ticket holders.

"The manager and the assistant manager, we know their ambitions are to be up there challenging, that’s why I’ve come from League One into League Two because not only is it my hometown but I believe Walsall stand every opportunity of being up there.

"I got promoted out of this league three years ago and what a feeling it would be to do it with your hometown club.

“Coming this late into pre-season, you’d normally be building a relationship with the goalkeepers. I’ve had a good chat with Adam (Przybek) about what he expects and what I expect of him.

"With Owen, we’re already underway in terms of he knows how I work and I know how he works so it’s great coming in this late to have that head start with him. I’m looking forward to working with both.”
