Taylor expecting difficult test from Rovers

28 January 2022

Head Coach Matt Taylor is expecting tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Bristol Rovers to be another difficult game against ‘a very aggressive’ Joey Barton side.

The Pirates are currently unbeaten in their last four home league games, winning three and drawing one, but Taylor is keen for his side to focus on themselves and to build on the performance level that was shown on Tuesday night against Bradford City.

“It will be a difficult game for us,” Taylor said. “They’re a very aggressive team and knowing Joey (Barton), he will be demanding everything he possibly can out of his team.

“They will be high on confidence, it was a great result on Tuesday night against Scunthorpe for them but I think the focus still needs to be on us.

“We have spoken as a group and looked at a few things today in terms of the opposition and what I expect from our players and we will be doing that again before the game.

“One thing I do know is that regardless of who we play, and that’s not being disrespectful to anybody, the focus has to be on us. Our players will know everything they need to about the opposition.

“What we need to make sure we do on Saturday is replicate the performance level that we showed on Tuesday night and when we get the chances, put it in the back of the net when we are inside the six-yard box, that’s the big thing, that’s the big change that is needed. I want us to start the game fast.

“They have got some exceptional footballers and Joey has obviously turned a corner with them.

“From a personal point of view as an ex-team mate of mine, I wish him all the best for the rest of the season but I expect us to go to their ground on Saturday full of confidence and full of confidence because of the performance that we produced on Tuesday.”

Taylor and his side will once again be back by another fantastic following on Saturday with over 350 tickets already snapped up by the Saddlers faithful and there’s still a chance to join those already going.

Tickets are available on the day with no price increase and both cash and card are accepted at the ground.
