Kinsella admits display against Rovers was unacceptable

31 January 2022

Walsall midfielder Liam Kinsella labelled Saturday’s defeat to Bristol Rovers as ‘unacceptable.’

Aaron Collins netted in the 90th minute as 10-man Rovers claimed all three points at the Memorial Stadium.

The 25-year-old admitted the Saddlers didn’t do enough, particularly in the second half and that the performance wasn’t good enough.

“It’s unacceptable to lose that game,” he said.

“When they go down to 10 men, you have got to take it to them and I didn’t think that we took it to them enough.

“The goals that we are conceding, we’re giving other teams chances to score goals.

“Each of us needs to look at each other, look at ourselves and we need to change it and change it quick.

“We didn’t make their keeper work enough especially when they went down to 10 men.

“You have to create opportunities; you need to create chances and we just didn’t do that. Like I said, it was unacceptable and five on the bounce just isn’t good enough."

On what was a disappointing day for the team, Kinsella was keen to praise the Saddlers faithful for, once again, travelling in numbers to support the team as 491 made the trip down the M5.

He is keen to right the wrongs from recent games quickly and deliver a performance for the fans.

“The fans have been outstanding this season,” he commented.

“We haven’t performed to what we are capable of in the changing room and we haven’t given them the performance that they deserve. They came in their numbers again and we should have put in a performance for them.

They have been fantastic all season and we owe them a lot more than what we are doing at the moment.”
