King previews Morecambe test

21 January 2022

Professional Development Phase Coach Ben King is hoping that Walsall’s Under-18s side can build on last weekend’s dramatic 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers when they take on Morecambe in today’s lunchtime kick-off at Ray Hall Lane.

Goals from Ronan Maher and Harry Manton secured the young Saddlers their first victory of the season last weekend and now King is hoping that the positive result and performance can be carried forward into the game against Morecambe.

“It’s all about building on last weekend’s win,” King said. “The lads were absolutely delighted with the result but also the performance as well.

“We could see why they were so pleased because we have deserved that and although it has happened in previous games where we have deserved that win but it just hasn’t gone our way, to finally get that is massive.

“The environment has been fantastic.

“There has been a really buzz around the place and one of the reasons for that is that they are starting to take ownership on what they are doing so going into the game on Saturday, I think there is a real urge from the lads to kick on and hopefully get the next win and then the next win after that.”

The Saddlers are currently bottom of the EFL Youth Alliance North West League but could go within three points of Port Vale who are one place above with victory over the Shrimps today.

The Under 18s are back at home again a next Saturday as they host the Valiants.
