Wayne Hatswell appointed Assistant Head Coach

22 February 2022

Walsall Football Club are pleased to confirm the appointment of Wayne Hatswell as Assistant Head Coach.

Hatswell worked as Michael Flynn’s assistant at Newport County during his four-and-a-half-year spell at Rodney Parade.

As well as working as a coach over two spells at Newport, he has managed non-league side Stamford in 2013 and coached at Gillingham.

The 47-year-old also represented the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Oxford United, Kidderminster Harriers, Rushden & Diamonds, Cambridge United, Dundalk and the Exiles during his playing career.

Hatswell is looking forward to the challenge and working with Flynn once again.

“I’m really excited,” he said.

“It’s been a mad 48 hours because I was in the dugout for Newport on Saturday.

“I’m really pleased and looking forward to working with Michael again.

“Everyone knows what we did at Newport for a good four years, that was a big draw for me.

“We know how each other work and he wanted me to come in and that’s what’s happened.

“I’m really excited to be at Walsall and I look forward to many years to come.”

Flynn is excited to be working with Hatswell again and is pleased to have him on board.

“I’m delighted that we’ve managed to bring Wayne to the football club, he will be a huge addition,” he commented.

“He has got all the characteristics I look for in my staff. He’s an outstanding coach and a hard worker, which will only bring an improved quality to what’s already at the football club.

“We’ve had a successful partnership over the years and I’m really excited to have him on board.”

Hatswell will be in the dugout for this evening’s match away at Swindon Town.
