Walsall Head Coach Matt Taylor has called on his team to maximise their efforts at the top end of the pitch when they take on Scunthorpe United tomorrow evening.
The Saddlers will be aiming to improve on their showing from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Northampton Town.
Taylor’s men make a swift return to action and he agreed it was a positive that the Saddlers have the opportunity to get back on the pitch quickly.
“It is (good to have a quick turnaround) because it means that you can’t dwell on the last one but we’ve got to perform better,” he said.
“I look at the mistakes that we’re making and they’re avoidable – that’s the disappointing thing for me.
“The set up (on Saturday) was more positive in terms of getting two players up the top of the pitch but we didn’t work hard enough at the top of the pitch to hold the ball and I’ll address that come Tuesday because it’s imperative that the team that is picked goes out and represents this football shirt, represents the football club and puts more effort in than we did at the top of the pitch on Saturday.”
Walsall will be boosted by the return of Manny Monthé who is available after serving a seven-match ban.
The Saddlers did suffer an injury setback during Saturday’s match when Jack Earing was forced off after he took a nasty blow to the head.
Taylor provided an update on the midfielder’s condition.
“He unfortunately was knocked out so that will see him miss a period now with concussion protocol,” he confirmed.
“Fortunately, the bigger picture is he’s OK and he’s fine but he took a bit of a whack and unfortunately was knocked out.”
Tickets are still available for tomorrow’s trip to Glanford Park.
