Flynn delighted to win first home game in charge

28 February 2022

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn was delighted to win his first home match on Saturday and was full of praise for his players.

George Miller’s brace and a fine finish from Conor Wilkinson helped the Saddlers earn a 3-1 victory over Hartlepool United.

Flynn felt his team deserved the three points and was pleased to emerge victorious for the first time at the Banks’s Stadium.

“It’s always nice to win your first home game in charge of a new club,” he said.

“I thought first half we were excellent. We started a bit sloppy in the second half, you could see they were getting back into the game and I’ve spoken to the players on that.

“It was all about the three points and I thought we thoroughly deserved it.

“I thought Emmanuel Osadebe and Tyrese Shade playing out of position were excellent, doing jobs for the team.

“The strikers, Liam Kinsella was everywhere and it was nice to see Lee Tomlin get on, you could see the quality he possesses with some of the things he was doing. We’ve got to get the players on his wavelength and it will be a successful signing.”

Saturday’s match saw Kinsella play his 200th game for the Saddlers and Flynn was keen to congratulate the 26-year-old on reaching the milestone.

“I didn’t know that, the 200. He’s kept it quiet so congratulations to Liam on that," he commented.

“He’s Walsall through and through and he’s been excellent for me so far.

“Labadie was better, he was disciplined, he was effective in breaking their play up.

"Hayden White second half was faultless, Donervon was chalk and cheese compared to Tuesday – I thought he was demanding.

“Manny had a bit of a niggle but he soldiered through for us and that’s what we need from now until the end of the season.”

Attention now turns to Tuesday night’s trip to Northampton Town.
