Saddlers visit Walsall Manor Hospital

22 December 2022

Head Coach Michael Flynn, Assistant Head Coach Wayne Hatswell, First Team Coach Mat Sadler, Goalkeeper Coach Dan Watson, the entire Walsall squad and Club Mascot Swifty visited patients and staff at Walsall Manor Hospital earlier this week.

The players and coaching staff spread a bit of Christmas cheer and handed out toys to children on their first squad visit to the hospital since 2019 due to COVID-19 restrictions over the past two years.

Toys were provided thanks to donations from supporters as part of Walsall Football Club Supporters Trust’s annual Christmas Toy Appeal as well as a large donation from our Principal Partners Poundland.

On visiting the hospital, Saddlers midfielder Liam Kinsella said: "I have been to the hospital six or seven times and this is the first time since the Covid break.

“It's nice to bring smiles to the faces of the children when they see us coming in with the toys."

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s charity, Well Wishers said: “It was great to finally have the team back in after a two year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It creates a real buzz for the children and staff on our Children’s Ward and we can’t thank the players, managers and not forgetting Swifty, enough for coming along and making the afternoon a special one. And of course, a big round of applause to Walsall FC Supporters Trust for all the wonderful toys and gifts they donated and also the businesses that supported the club with toys.”

We would like to place on record our thanks to Poundland and all supporters who made a donation and also the Trust for organising the toy appeal.
