Hutchinson looking forward to important period

9 December 2022

Walsall midfielder Isaac Hutchinson feels the Saddlers are entering an important stage of the season as they prepare to face teams in and around them in the Sky Bet League Two table in the coming weeks.

The Saddlers take on 8th place Salford City tomorrow and will also face the likes of Swindon Town, Stockport County and Mansfield Town, who are all currently in the top half, over the Christmas period.

Hutchinson has called on the team to show what they are capable of but insists they are heading into the busy festive period full of confidence.

“We’ll go into every game believing we can win, especially the form we’re in now,” he said.

“No matter who we’re playing, we back ourselves to be better than them and to get a result.

“They’re (Salford) only a point above us so it’s a good game to try and get up the table.

“This period now is going to be important to our season, playing against most of the top half between now and the end of January. Those are the games that we need to show our quality and show we should be in and amongst that part of the table and I think we will do.”

Hutchinson has been in good form for the Saddlers in recent weeks and has three goals and five assists to his name so far this campaign.

While he feels he should have more, the 22-year-old is pleased with his recent contributions.

“Luckily enough, things have been clicking at the moment,” he commented.

“People have been finishing the chances I’ve been creating for them which I’m buzzing about so hopefully that can continue.

“I was robbed of a couple (of assists) on the first day of the season so I think I should have more but it’s important, I think everyone looks at the stats these days no matter what so the more you can get, the better.”
