Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn admitted his team should have put the game to bed after conceding a 100th minute equaliser to Stevenage on Saturday.
Danny Johnson’s fifth goal of the campaign looked like it was going to be enough but Danny Rose ensured Boro claimed a share of the spoils with virtually the last kick of the game, beyond the allotted eight minutes of added time.
Flynn praised the opposition for their never say die attitude but was left frustrated as he felt his team could have stretched their lead prior to the late leveller.
“I thought we should have killed the game before it," Flynn said.
"Danny (Johnson) misses two chances, Andy (Williams) goes through – we should have killed the game off.
“I’m not going to go on about eight minutes going up and we play over 100, we’ve still got to switch on.
“Owen (Evans) should stay on his line and the lads left Rose free at the back so it’s frustrating.
“We should have killed the game off against a very physical Stevenage team. They score a lot of late goals; they keep going so I suppose I’ve got to say that’s a credit to them.
“We’re not going to keep a clean sheet every game this season. I’m gutted for the lads, the effort and throwing their bodies in this heat as well so it’s a little bit disappointing but we’re still unbeaten.”
The Saddlers Head Coach was keen to stress the team, both players and staff, will assess their own performances as they look to bounce back and improve.
Flynn introduced Tom Knowles and Jack Earing from the bench in the second half to add fresh legs and revealed he pondered over making a further change.
“We were thinking of getting Timmy (Abraham) on with his pace to basically get in behind them but Andy Williams is crucial on our set plays,” he explained.
“We decided to keep Andy on because of his experience but unfortunately it didn’t work so we look at ourselves and I’m honest enough to say that we had those conversations but it is what it is.”
