Flynn pleased to see Ronan Maher's efforts rewarded with Republic of Ireland Under 19s call up

2 August 2022

Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn is pleased to see Ronan Maher's hard work being rewarded with a call up to Republic of Ireland Under 19s upcoming training camp.

The teenager has stepped up from the Saddlers Under 18s and spent the entirety of pre-season training and playing with the the first team.

He made his professional debut as a substitute during Saturday's opening day victory over Hartlepool United.

Maher is spending three days at the training camp in Loughborough where Head Coach Tom Mohan will assess the players ahead of UEFA European Under-19 Championships qualifiers in September.

Flynn believes the training camp will act as a fantastic learning experience for Maher and he's delighted to see him earn a call up.

"As a club we are really pleased to see Ronan get called up for the Under 19s training camp with Republic of Ireland," he said.

"He has worked incredibly hard during the off season and he has been very good during pre-season with us. If he keeps working hard, he will continue to get his opportunities with us and at international level.

"He has all the attributes to continue to grow as a player and as a team, we will continue to work with him to make sure we are keeping him progressing in the best way possible.

"Like I say, we are really pleased to see him rewarded with a call-up to the training camp. It will be a new experience for him and one that I am sure he will learn a lot from and he will be a better player for it."

Good luck Ronan from everyone at Walsall Football Club.
