Bennett excited after first start in midweek

12 August 2022

Walsall defender Liam Bennett was pleased to get 90 minutes under his belt against Swindon Town on Tuesday night and is excited ahead of a busy run of fixtures.

Bennett impressed on his full debut for the Saddlers and drew praise from Head Coach Michael Flynn who felt he was the man of the match against the Robins in the Carabao Cup.

The 20-year-old is now looking to push on after getting his first start.

“I was happy to get my opportunity and I felt that I took it quite well,” he said.

“I slotted in really well; it’s a great group of lads and I’m looking forward to the times ahead.

“We’re all ambitious, we all want to kick on and make a mark for the Club and our careers so good times ahead.

“We’ve had it drilled in to us the way the manager wants us to play and it seems to have come off quite well so far.

"We’ll keep working on that, keep working hard and we’ll see what happens.”

The Saddlers have won all three league and cup matches so far this season and have also kept three clean sheets.

Tomorrow’s opponents Stevenage have also won all thre games so far and while Bennett and the team are confident going into tomorrow’s encounter, the defender stressed that the players remain grounded.

“We’re not going to get carried away,” he insists.

“We’re going to take it game by game and make sure we prepare properly.

“Stevenage have started really well but so have we so we’re confident we can give a good account of ourselves.”
