Wilkinson buzzing to be back at home

1 April 2022

Walsall forward Conor Wilkinson is relishing a return to the Banks’s Stadium after two recent away trips.

The Saddlers host Wilkinson’s former club Leyton Orient on Saturday in their first match at home since March 15th – a 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic.

The 27-year-old has felt the support of the Saddlers faithful at the Banks’s Stadium and is excited to be back playing on home soil.

“We’ve really enjoyed playing at home,” he said.

“I think our results are probably better at home than elsewhere. The fans are always behind us and we have that bit of a push from them and it really does help.

“Against Oldham we were 1-0 down, the fans got right behind us and we ended up winning 2-1 one and picking up a massive three points.

“We’ve had a good week of training.

“We’re really looking forward to tomorrow, we’ve still got a few games left of the season to try and finish as high as we can and we’re looking forward to it.”

The Saddlers will be looking to return to winning ways after last weekend’s defeat to Salford City.

Wilkinson spent two years with tomorrow’s opponents and scored 20 times at the Breyer Group Stadium.

He is looking forward to facing his former club and despite their defeat to Oldham on Tuesday night, he’s aware of their threats.

“They’ve been on a good run of form and some of the players are really in form,” he commented.

“They’re going to come here and not get pushed over. They lost during the week and it’s going to be a reaction from them on Saturday and we’re going to look to get three points.”
