PRE-MATCH | Matt Taylor previews Mansfield clash

10 September 2021

Walsall Head Coach Matt Taylor is keen to see his team impose themselves early in tomorrow’s game against a Mansfield Town side he feels possesses plenty of talent.

The Saddlers will be looking to earn their second successive home win and build on last week’s battling draw against Bradford City.

Taylor is pleased to be back at the Banks’s Stadium and is hoping his side can deliver a performance in front of the Saddlers faithful but is expecting Mansfield to provide a difficult challenge given the squad they have.

“They’re a team that have got some really good footballers,” Taylor said.

“They’ve got a manager that is extremely experienced, very capable and he’s a winner so from my perspective we respect the opposition 100 per cent.

“We do that in the best possible way by making sure that we earn the right to play in the game and what I mean by that is replicating what we did against Bradford but with 11 men and if we do that, we know we’ll create chances, it’s just whether we take them or not and that is ultimately what the game will come down to.

“I want to see an aggressive start to the game from us. The players will understand the game plan and once those ideas are in their head, once they step over that white line then making decisions.

“From speaking to them this week, they’re extremely happy we’re back at home.

“I hope we can start to get a few more fans through the door to support the players because they’re on this journey with us.

“That’s why it’s so important that when we do go away from home and we are at home win, lose or draw that we go over and thank the fans because they’re so paramount to what we do at this football club.

“Yes, the players are the lucky ones who go out on the pitch but without the fans and the atmosphere it brings, it’s a different place.

“It was sterile last year in football so I’m extremely excited to be back at the Banks’s, I know the players are and they’ve got to go and deliver a performance to show the fans that they really mean business.”
