Miller: "I couldn't have asked for better"

13 September 2021

Walsall striker George Miller was delighted to have scored a brace on his home debut.

Miller’s goals helped the Saddlers to a 3-1 victory over Mansfield Town.

The 23-year-old is hoping to have more days like Saturday in a Walsall shirt after a dream first match at the Banks’s Stadium.

“I couldn’t have asked for better so hopefully I can keep doing that on more occasions but I’m really happy with that,” Miller said.

“What the fans will get to expect is some days I won’t always be on it but I will work hard and do everything for the team so if you can do that then you can’t do much wrong.

“Everyone can have a bad day but luckily Saturday was my good day.

“It was tough on the body, my first proper 90 minutes in a while so I managed to get through it.

“My hamstring is aching a bit but it’s good to get the minutes under my belt and that’s the only way I’m going to get fit.

“It’s not a secret, I’m here to play games and I want to play as much as I can and the gaffer’s given me that opportunity so I’ve got to be grateful and do what he says to get on that pitch as much as I can.”

The only thing you could argue that was missing from Miller’s performance on Saturday was a third goal to have secured his hat-trick.

He was unlucky with an audacious strike from distance that dipped onto the crossbar but is happy to settle for the brace.

“I couldn’t have done anything more,” he commented.

“I hit the bar but it’s just one of them. I’ll take two, I can’t complain with that.”
