LOAN WATCH | Joe Foulkes enjoying life at Kidderminster

20 September 2021

Defender Joe Foulkes is enjoying a fruitful loan spell at National League North side Kidderminster Harriers this season.

The 18-year-old has been a mainstay in their team and has made a flying start at Aggborough.

So far, he has been named in the non-league paper’s Team of the Week, scored his first professional goal against Gateshead and helped the team progress to the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.

Foulkes is keen to get himself into scoring positions more often after being more focused on getting the ball back to the halfway line rather than celebrating but is enjoying life at with the Harriers so far.

“The environment at Kidderminster is really good,” he said.

“I got my goal last week so that’s a bonus.

“We were 2-0 down at the time so there wasn’t much time for me to think about that personally.

“I was just thinking about getting the ball back to the halfway line and starting the game again to keep the pressure up. I try and get myself into the best positions possible so I know if the ball breaks on the edge of the box or I can latch onto something, I’m always in there to try and get a goal.

“I just try and put in my best performance each week, play to the best of my ability and I go from there.

“There are proper non-league type games with long balls, a lot of defending and set pieces but there’s also games we can get the ball down on the floor and we can play so it’s a good mixture.

"I’m progressing quite a lot and I’m adapting really well to it.”

His current manager at Kidderminster Russell Penn has also been pleased with how Foulkes has started at Aggborough and the way he’s developing.

“He’s been fantastic for us with his tenacity, his energy and his goal poaching,” Penn told Kidderminster’s website.

“We know we’re going to have to take the rough with the smooth with loans but he’s hit the ground running. Joe has started like a house on fire and has quickly become a fans favourite.”
