Ash Taylor keen to send fans home happy

14 September 2021

Walsall defender Ash Taylor is keen to ensure the team continue to send the fans home with smiles on their faces.

The Saddlers are back at the Banks’s Stadium this evening for the Papa John’s Trophy opener against Brighton and Hove Albion Under 23s.

After an excellent and entertaining performance in front of over 5,000 fans on Saturday, Taylor has called for more of the same tonight and beyond.

“When you’re winning football matches, you want to send the fans home happy and it’s important we do that,” he said.

“If we work hard, put in the performances that we’re capable of then the fans will be pleased and that’s what we want to do, we want to send them home happy.”

The 31-year-old scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Mansfield Town.

After not starting the last two matches, he was delighted to make a positive impact and mark his return to the starting XI with a goal.

“It was pleasing on my behalf coming back into the team and getting myself a goal,” he commented.

“I’ve had a couple of chancing this season, one cleared off the line and it was only a matter of time because I attack the ball really well from set plays and it’s something I pride myself.

“I’ll try and get more goals from set plays, we’re a big side so if the balls right and there to attack it, that’s what I want to do.”

“That’s what you’ve got to do as a player when you get your opportunities, you’ve got to put in those performances and give the gaffer some questions.

“It’s one of those situations where if you’re not at your levels you will come out of the team, he’s not afraid to do that. You’ve got to put in those performances and that’s what we did (on Saturday).”
