White keen to keep grafting

18 October 2021

Walsall defender Hayden White has urged the players to keep pushing hard as they prepare for tonight’s trip to Oldham Athletic.

The 26-year-old helped the Saddlers earn a point and a clean sheet with an impressive performance at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

White admitted the team haven’t picked up the points their performances have merited this season but after an encouraging start to October, he is keen to kick on and start adding points consistently.

“There are no easy games in this league so we need to keep grafting away,” White said.

“We do need to start picking up points, the boys know that.

“We went came away to Leyton Orient and you look at league positions, you’d say it’s a good result for us but we came here to win the game and on the basis of play we should have won the game.

“We know the results haven’t been what we wanted but the performances have been so if we keep working as hard as that and keep putting in performances like that then we will eventually start to climb the league.”

The Saddlers kept their fourth clean sheet in all competitions at the Breyer Group Stadium.

White is hoping more clean sheets will follow and believes the defensive unit is starting to show more promising signs.

“We’ve had countless meetings; we want clean sheets and I think you’re starting to see that come together,” he commented.

“The two centre-backs were outstanding (on Saturday).

“I think the gaffer said at the start of the season that it takes time to build that kind of trust. We are getting there; we are working hard and hopefully we there are more clean sheets to come this season.”
