Walsall Head Coach Matt Taylor praised his defence after Saturday’s goalless draw with Leyton Orient but was slightly frustrated that his side didn’t pick up all three points.
The Saddlers impressed at the Breyer Group Stadium and were in control for the majority of the game.
Taylor described his team’s performance as strong and felt it probably merited more than just a point.
“It should be all three,” he said.
“We were excellent in defence, we had a gameplan and the players stuck to it. The players, to a man, did their job defensively.
“When those big moments in the game we just didn’t take them but we frustrated Leyton Orient, a team in the play-off positions and we were exceptional value for the point but it should have been all three.
“They didn’t look like scoring, the back four and midfield were excellent. We were strong, we were resolute and the boys were disciplined in their jobs and that’s what we need every single week. There’s a lot of tired bodies in there and it’s a shame for all our effort we haven’t come away with three points.
“Defensively I didn’t feel in any way, shape or form nervous because I felt we were in complete control and we were strong. That’s the one word I’d use, as a defensive team we were strong.
“We’ve got a clear identity and a clear idea of how we want to play. The players are grasping more detail on a daily basis, you’ve seen the way we pass and move the ball and some of the patterns to work it into the final third were brilliant, it’s just that detail that matters and we made too many wrong decisions in and around their box.
“We flashed balls across the box where we’re asking for more guile on the pass and balls are just missing our players inside the box but that’s a positive thing coming away from home, it’s a difficult place to come to.”
Attention now turns to tomorrow’s trip to Oldham Athletic.
