Taylor keeping level head as he eyes response from Saddlers

15 November 2021

Walsall Head Coach Matt Taylor is taking a measured approach following Saturday’s defeat to Harrogate Town.

The Saddlers fell to a frustrating 3-1 reverse against the Sulphurites and suffered their first league defeat since the end of September.

Taylor was disappointed with his team’s performance and is hoping to get a reaction from his players when they take on Rochdale next weekend.

He is also keen to remain level headed, with players also returning from injury, as he looks to help the team bounce back.

“Everyone asks me why I don’t get so high after winning – this is the reason,” Taylor said.

“It’s really easy when you’re winning to think you’ve cracked it and then when you lose to all of a sudden think everything is wrong.

“We’ve got a group of players here who are hurt by the performance.

“What I will say is I look at training, we’ve got players coming out of the treatment room which gives us more competition.

“We’ve got Joss back available for the weekend and I hope that the reaction I get from the players is a positive one throughout the week.

“This must be a reset for myself, the group of players but also contextualise it.

"While we all feel not particularly good at the moment, you’ve got to look at where we were, where we are now and next Saturday, we’ve got to see a reaction.

“When the boys turn up for training, I’ve got to see a work ethic and desire to take us back to basics and we have a good training week. Hopefully a better version of us turns up next week.”
