Menayese delighted with Port Vale win and clean sheet

25 November 2021

Defender Rollin Menayese was delighted to keep another clean sheet and send the Saddlers faithful home happy following Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Port Vale.

Matt Taylor’s side put in an accomplished professional away performance on Tuesday evening as Brendan Kiernan’s strike was enough to claim the victory against the Valiants.

The 23-year-old played his part in keeping a third consecutive clean sheet away from home and was keen to praise the team and the fans for their efforts.

“We’re all buzzing to be fair,” said Menayese.

“Everyone knows it’s a difficult place to come and play and they’ve got off to a good start this season. We knew how much this game meant to the fans and for us it was a big game in our season so we’re happy to have taken all three points.

“It’s great to keep another clean sheet on the road. It sets a good foundation and everyone put their shift in defensively from top to bottom.

“We kept our shape well and put our bodies on the line when we had to so it was nice to keep another clean sheet after Saturday as it gives us the chance to gain more wins and put more points on the board.

“The travelling support from the fans was massive and the noise was electric; I felt like we were playing at home at times.

“They cheered us on throughout and gave us that extra 10 per cent and we all appreciate them coming out in their numbers and helping us get the win.”

Attentions now turn to Saturday’s game against Carlisle United and the Saddlers will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run in the league to three games and stretch their unbeaten run on the road to eight in all competitions.

Menayese is expecting another tough test but is hoping that the team can deliver on the day and end the week on a positive note.

“We’re expecting another tough test,” he continued.

“There’s a buzz around the place at the moment and the spirit in the camp is high but our focus is now on Saturday’s game at Carlisle and making sure we come away with a positive result.

“If we perform to the standards that we set ourselves as a team I am confident we can turn a good week into an excellent week.

“Hopefully we can give them another performance to cheer about on Saturday against Carlisle.”
