Roberts looks ahead to Barrow test

12 March 2021

Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts is eyeing a high energy performance when the Saddlers take on Barrow tomorrow.

Brian Dutton’s side will be looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat to Cambridge United against the Bluebirds this evening.

Roberts is expecting a battle from Barrow tonight and has called on the Saddlers to build and improve upon Saturday’s performance.

“They’re hunting us so we need to go into that game to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Roberts said.

“We have to go in with high energy, exactly the same as Saturday, in fact even more than Saturday because that’s our standard, that’s our level and we need to bring that consistency with it.

“The position that they’re in, they’re going to come out and they’re going to come and scrap and they’re going to want to fight so we need to match that and then the quality needs to show from that.”

Walsall played out a 2-2 draw back in October when they last met Barrow at Holker Street.

The Saddlers have 14 games left to play this season and Roberts admitted the team need to start putting points on the board.

“We’re at the business end of the season and we know what position we’re in. We need to start getting points on the board. The performances are there, it’s just things clicking together now with the style of play that we’re doing. We’ve had a full week to get it in so we’re looking forward to tomorrow.”

"We can’t go into the game feeling hard done by from Saturday, it’s a clean slate.

"We need to come with high energy so we need to match that, that’s the initial thing and the creativity will come within that.”

Tonight’s game be shown live on iFollow with Darren Wrack and Ned Kelly joining Mike Taylor on commentary.
