Llera delighted with Saddlers victory over Fleetwood

31 March 2021

Walsall Academy manager Miguel Llera was pleased to see his team return to winning ways after the Under 18s earned a 2-0 victory away at Fleetwood last Saturday.

Jayden Campbell and Marvellous Onabirekhanlen were on target for the Saddlers as they picked up their first victory of 2021.

After a disruptive period, Llera feels things are starting to settle down again and with fitness levels improving, he isn’t surprised that results have started coming.

“I’m pleased but not surprised because I knew they were capable to do it,” Llera said.

“I was looking forward to that situation happening as it’s been difficult in the last couple of months for everybody.

“We’ve been competing in the league without being as fit as we are expecting, we are getting better but we’re not fully fit after the virus and isolation.

“With the first team back at the training ground, we’re back to kind of normality so we can spend more time on the analysis and the gym and bring them back to 100 per cent fitness.

“Hopefully it’s a boost of confidence to everybody and in the last nine games we come back to win games, keep everybody on the pitch as much time as we can without any self-isolation and injuries so hopefully, we can have a strong finish to the season.”

The Under 18s are back in action on Saturday as they host Morecambe, a game he and the players are excited about after a good week on the training field.

“We have been training really well,” Llera commented.

“The lads watched the game the other day to see what they need to improve but in general the lads are looking forward to training because they feel better and stronger. They are looking forward to playing on Saturday.”
