Dutton looks ahead to Crawley test

16 March 2021

Walsall Head Coach Brian Dutton has called on his side to take ownership as they prepare to face Crawley Town tonight.

The Saddlers will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Barrow as they play the first of four consecutive away matches against the Red Devils.

Dutton is looking for the players to show a strong mentality as they take on a strong Crawley outfit tonight.

“Crawley are a top team, they’ve picked up and are in good form so it’s another tough fixture,” he said.

“There are no easy fixtures for Walsall between now and the end of the season, especially with the form we’re in, so we’ve got to dust ourselves down and go and attack them.

“They’re getting paid a wage to represent this great football club and we can’t just dust everything under the carpet and hope everything is going to be alright, we need to take ownership and take leadership.

“The shirts are up for grabs and that’s how it’s got to be. If you perform, you keep the shirt and if you don’t perform, expect to come out the side.

"We’ll have to review that game, sit and watch it back and review who deserves an opportunity in the next fixture.

“We can’t mollycoddle people, we need strong mentalities. We need players to take responsibility and ownership otherwise if we keep wrapping them up and telling them everything is going to be alright then we’ll keep getting the same outcomes so it’s up to them to have a bit of ownership.”
