Menayese looking forward to Cheltenham test

29 July 2021

Walsall defender Rollin Menayese feels Saturday’s match against Cheltenham Town will provide the team with a good indication of where they are and is looking forward to the challenge.

The Saddlers head to the Jonny Rocks Stadium for their final pre-season outing before the big kick-off against Tranmere Rovers on August 7th.

The Robins won Sky Bet League Two last season and feels it will provide good preparation for the new campaign.

“They did well last year so it will be a good test,” he said.

“They will be a similar outfit to teams we will play in the league so it will be good to see where we’re at and to push ourselves before the season starts.

“The season is just around the corner so you want to be fit. The games that we’ve had have been good tests and I think the more that you play, the sharper and fitter you get.”

Menayese is the club’s most recent arrival having joined a day before the friendly against Crystal Palace earlier this month.

The 23-year-old is enjoying life at the Banks’s stadium so far and pleased with how he’s bedded in.

“I think I’ve settled in well,” he commented.

“It’s a good bunch of lads and the manager’s been good. Everyone has been very welcoming and everyone’s working hard.

“A lot of people are in the same situation but everyone’s been on the same page and learn what the gaffer wants.”

“It’s a great group. Everyone’s on board and everyone wants to achieve the same things this year so everyone’s been great.

"There’s a good buzz around the place and in the changing room which helps when you get on the pitch.”

The Saddlers face Cheltenham at 3pm on Saturday.
