A young Walsall XI made up of Under 18s suffered defeat in their opening friendly of pre-season against Rushall Olympic.
The Pics scored two goals in each half to claim the victory on a tough afternoon for the Saddlers.
The hosts applied the early pressure and creating a couple of decent openings but the Miguel Llera's side stood firm and goalkeeper Tommy Jackson made an early save.
Rushall came close after 13 minutes when Sam Fitzgerald’s low free-kick had to be tipped onto the post by Jackson.
The Pics came close four minutes later when Michael Nelson headed over from close range.
Jackson was forced to make another save, this time with his legs, to deny Daniel Glover who was played through by Fitzgerald.
Rushall opened the scoring after half an hour when Rakeem Reid thumped the ball into the top corner.
The hosts doubled their advantage 11 minutes later when Noel Angafor turned the ball into his own net and the Pics went into the half-time break with a deserved lead.
Llera made a number of changes at half-time. Zac Hedge replaced Jackson in goal while Rio Sawyers, Trialist, Antonio Christofaro, Arjun Toor, and Kymani Hunter were all introduced in place of Angafor, Jack Shaw, Marvellous Onabirekhanlen, Callum Derry and Trialist.
Rushall scored their third 10 minutes into the second half when Alex Moore curled the ball into the top corner.
Llera made another change as Dan Baldwin replaced Josh Simcox.
Simeon Cobourne made it 4-0 on 70 minutes and it was proving to be a tough afternoon for the Saddlers.
The young Walsall side kept plugging away against their more experienced opponents and almost pulled a goal back through a Trialist who hit the side netting.
Rushall almost made it five late on when Sam Whittall hit the crossbar from inside the area.
In the end, a difficult afternoon for the young Saddlers who battled hard against senior opposition.
